Minister of State, Tom Kitt, T.D., welcomes Fall to 2.1% in Inflation Rate for June

Minister of State, Tom Kitt, T.D., welcomed today the fall to 2.1% in the annual inflation rate in June - down from 2.4% in May and below the 2.2% registered as an average for 2004 as a whole.

The Minister commented that  "the figures are positive from a competitiveness viewpoint.  Maintaining that favourable trend will be important from the relative cost base perspective of businesses, especially by reference to competitor European economies.  It is vital for growth and jobs that our inflation rate will continue to be held at low levels over the period ahead.  "
