ASC Initiative
The ASC (Access, Skills and Content) Initiative was established in 2006 to assist voluntary, not-for-profit organisations and service providers to encourage and support the participation of late adopters of technology in an inclusive Information Society.
The objective is to target those who are at greatest risk of being left behind in the Information or Knowledge Society, including older people and people with disabilities, by exploiting the potential of technology to foster communities of common interest through on-line services and networks. These groups have been identified as two of the most vulnerable sectors in society.
Proposals have been invited from Community, Voluntary and Not-for-Profit groups for initiatives to promote access, skills or content in line with the stated objectives.
In 2006 €1.45 million was allocated to 76 organisations to progress these objectives. Up to €3 million is being made available under the ASC 2nd Call for proposals in 2007. Details of successful projects are listed below.
