Projects supported by the Information Society Fund 1999-2002

Below is a selection of some of the projects supported by the Information Society Fund (1999-2002). The sample is by no means complete, but aims to provide an overview of the types of projects that have been and/or continue to be funded through the Information Society Fund.   

Revenue Online Services (ROS)

The Revenue Online Service (ROS) allows for the secure and speedy electronic filing and payment of taxes as well as providing online access to customer account information. 

Civil Service and Local Appointments Commission 

This site enables citizens to access information on a range of public sector jobs. It provides a secure facility to apply for public sector jobs online and also informs customers of career choices if a suitable job is not advertised.

 

Libraries ICT project  

Free internet access has been provided nationally through the installation of 1400 PCs across the public library network.   

Land Registry External Access Service  

The Land Registry's EAS (Electronic Access Service) is being developed to provide full online access to an electronic database of property ownership records and to support online applications for Land Registry services. Current developments involve the systematic conversion into electronic format and making available over the internet the vast repository of property ownership records maintained by the Registry on behalf of the State. This programme commenced in 2001 and is scheduled for completion by 2004.   

Forfás Online Spatial Database   

The Forfás website details the physical and social infrastructure of Ireland and gives information on companies supported by the Industrial Development agencies in the regions. It aims to provide up-to-date information on such areas as transport, environmental services and telecommunications, as well as education facilities, hospitals, cultural and recreational facilities etc.   

Equalskills Pilot    

Equalskills is a basic ICT literacy initiative piloted in the South West and Shannon regions.  The project, launched in September 2001, aimed to provide 100,000 people with the basic skills to use a PC, browse the internet, and use email.  

Teagasc: Curriculum and Resource Material Development for Farmer IT Training    

Teagasc have developed online curriculum and associated resource materials to ensure consistency and high quality in the provision of IT skills training for farmers.   

National Concert Hall

Production of a virtual tour of the NCH to appear on its website and CD Rom. Provision of Hyperstudio software on the website and CD Rom to provide the public and anyone interacting directly with the NCH Education programme with an essential compositional tool.
