Delivering Better Government (DBG) was published in May 1996, and, in addition to providing a clear direction to the programme for change and modernisation, recommended the introduction of a Quality Service Initiative for Customers and Clients of the Civil Service.  In 1997, the Quality Customer Service Initiative was launched.  The commitment to excellent customer service has received support from the Social Partners in successive Social Partnership agreements including Towards 2016.

Although the Department of the Taoiseach has a much smaller client base than other departments, for example the Department of Social and Family Affairs or the Revenue Commissioners, we are equally focused on the need to provide the highest level of service to our customers. We are committed to ensuring that the Principles of Quality Customer Service are embedded in our Strategy Statement and Business Plans, and that staff serving in the Department are trained in Quality Customer Service principles.

Policy on Quality Customer Service throughout the civil service is developed by the Transforming Public Services Division. For more information visit their website onegov.ie.
