Minister for European Affairs Encourages Applications for Funding Under Communicating Europe Initiative €200,000 available for 2005
Mr. Noel Treacy, T.D., Minister for European Affairs, today encouraged people to make applications for funding under the “Communicating Europe Initiative”. The funding is available to both groups and individuals engaged in promoting greater awareness of the European Union.
Funding is available for projects aimed at raising wider public awareness about the European Union and at explaining how the EU affects the lives of citizens, in a real and tangible way. Particular emphasis is placed on improving the quality and accessibility of Public Information on European issues.
Since 1995, the Department of Foreign Affairs have provided funding to a wide range of groups, including the European Youth Parliament, the Irish Countrywomen’s Association, the National Agency for Adult Literacy as well as to projects organised in schools, colleges, and universities.
Minister Treacy said, “It has always been a priority of this Government to encourage a wide ranging debate on the European Union and on Ireland’s membership. This is particularly important as Europe now reflects on the way forward. I am delighted that we are able to support and encourage further debate in this way and I urge groups and individuals, above all those not normally involved with EU issues, to bring forward their proposals for projects as quickly as possible.”
