Additional £200m plan for Dublin waste water system
Addressing the Dublin Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner tonight (Thursday, 23 October, 1997) the Taoiseach, Mr. Bertie Ahern, T.D., announced an additional element to the £200m plan for Dublin's new waste water system.
The Taoiseach said that "the Minister for the Environment and Local Government Noel Dempsey has approved a key stage of a new scheme of major extensions to the main drainage system in the North Dublin area. This means that the Local Authorities concerned now have the go-ahead to complete the design documentation for major elements of the scheme which will include the critical North Fringe Interceptor Sewer".
Mr. Ahern explained that "the North Dublin Drainage Scheme will cover an area stretching from Cappagh in the West to Howth and from the Tolka River in the South to the M50 in the North and Dublin Airport. Construction on this major scheme, which will cost in the region of £20m, is expected to commence in 1998. I know members of Dublin Chamber of Commerce will appreciate the huge opportunities for business development that this new scheme will present".
