Taoiseach’s Meeting with the Senator Chris Dodd, 15 December 2008
The Taoiseach, Mr Brian Cowen TD, met today with Senator Chris Dodd, Chairman of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee.
They had a wide-ranging discussion on the economic challenges that are facing Ireland and America, as well as the global implications of those challenges.
They discussed the current actions being taken by the US administration, including the financial and automotive sectors, and the likely developments in US policy when the new President and new Congress take office in the New Year.
The Taoiseach updated Senator Dodd on the actions being taken by the Government to ensure that Ireland deals effectively with domestic implications of the current unprecedented global economic difficulties and to promote a successful economic recovery.
The Taoiseach stressed the importance which he attaches to Ireland’s relationship with the United States.
He looked forward to the completion of the strategic review of the relationship which he initiated earlier this year and to his forthcoming visit to the United States for St Patrick’s Day.
