Taoiseach to Travel to the European Council, 28/29 October 2010
The Taoiseach, Mr. Brian Cowen T.D., travels to Brussels today, Thursday, accompanied by the Minister for European Affairs, Mr. Dick Roche T.D., to participate in a meeting of the European Council.
Discussion at the meeting is expected to focus on the Report of the Task Force on Economic Governance chaired by the President of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy, and calls from Germany and France for amendment to the EU Treaties to provide for a permanent crisis resolution mechanism in the eurozone and suspension of voting rights in cases of serious breach of the Stability and Growth Pact.
Other topics on the agenda include preparations for the Seoul G20 Summit in November and preparations for forthcoming bilateral summits including the upcoming EU/US Summit. The Council will also discuss preparations for the Cancun Conference on Climate Change.
