It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the Department of the Taoiseach website. I believe that you will find its contents and many links of great interest.
The main role of my Department is to support and advise me as Taoiseach in carrying out the various duties of my office. The Department also supplies administrative support to the Government Chief Whip in respect of his duties and provides the Secretariat to the Government. The Department plays a central role in acting as a link between the President, the Taoiseach and other Government Departments.
In addition, the Department is involved in a whole range of areas such as the development and co-ordination of policy in relation to Economic and Social Development, Northern Ireland, and the European Union. It also arranges State functions such as the annual National Day of Commemoration, Presidential inaugurations, and State Dinners, and provides a protocol service to the Taoiseach of the day.
You will find a whole range of information on this site with regard to these functions and other matters of general interest. I would also encourage you to access the main Government website (www.gov.ie) where you can find out more about the work of other Government Departments and Agencies.
Enda Kenny, T.D.
