No. 24 of 2002 - Minister for Environment and Local Government (Performance of Certain Functions) Act 2002

What does this Law do:

The Government Department charged with responsibility for heritage matters traditionally gives advice to local planning authorities on planning applications for development which could have an impact on nature conservation, habitats and the built or archaeological heritage.  However,  there is a bar in planning legislation on the Minister for the Environment and Local Government becoming involved in individual planning applications.  After responsibility for Heritage had been transferred to the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the Act removed that bar but only insofar as heritage issues are concerned.  The general bar on the Ministers involvement in planning cases remains in place.
