What does this law do?
The 1996 Act enables the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources to grant permits for certain dumping at sea. It also empowers the courts to impose monetary penalty and or imprisonment for illegal dumping. This new Act (2004) copperfastens practices to protect heritage and public consultation. It also requires the Permit Register to be published on the website of the Department of Communications, Marine and Natural Resources
