What does this law do?
The matters dealt with in the Land Act 2005 primarily concern land purchase annuities/land reclamation annuities. The Act provides for both a write off of small annuities (less than €200 per annum) and a buy out scheme for amounts greater than €200 per annum aimed at encouraging annuitants to clear their existing debts at a discount of 25 per cent subject to all outstanding arrears being paid in full. The Act also provides the Minister for Agriculture and Food with enhanced powers to seek recovery of any outstanding annuity arrears.
