Official Opening of the Battle of the Boyne Site,

The Taoiseach, Mr Bertie Ahern TD, will today perform the Official Opening of the Battle of the Boyne site with First Minister, Dr. Ian Paisley M.P., MLA.

Using original seventeenth century swords, the Taoiseach and the First Minister will jointly cut the ribbon at the site.

This event comes almost one year since the historic occasion when the Taoiseach first welcomed Dr. Paisley to the site of the Battle.

Since then, the OPW have completed the visitor facilities at the former Oldbridge Estate. These include a visitor centre in Oldbridge House with exhibitions depicting the battle; audio visual facilities; restoration of the walled-gardens and a tearoom and full-scale replica 17^th century artillery and military equipment in an outdoor setting.

Following the official opening, the Taoiseach, the First Minister and Baroness Paisley will receive a guided tour of the visitor centre.
