Taoiseach Visits New York Stock Exchange
The Taoiseach, Mr Brian Cowen TD, will today, Wednesday, ring the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange.
The Taoiseach is in New York where he is holding a series of high-level meetings with senior political and business figures, which will include the announcement of significant new export contracts won by Irish companies in the US.
Following his meetings on Wall Street, the Taoiseach will meet with New York Mayor, Mike Bloomberg.
He will then visit the World Trade Tribute Center, where he will remember those who were killed and injured in the events of September 11th 2001.
The Taoiseach will also hold discussions with senior Irish and Irish-American business leaders, including members of the Taoiseach’s Economic Advisory Board. The discussions are expected to focus on the current situation in the US and global economies and how Ireland can maintain its economic success during this difficult period internationally.
The focus of events later in the day will switch to the Irish community in the US, when the Taoiseach will attend a reception hosted by the Consul General in New York for the Irish community. He will also hold meetings with groups campaigning for immigration reform and to assist the undocumented Irish in the US.
