Taoiseach Meets Mayor Mike Bloomberg in New York

 

The Taoiseach, Mr Brian Cowen TD, today met Mayor Mike Bloomberg at his City Hall HQ in New York.  The meeting was also attended by New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn.

They discussed the economic situation in the US, Ireland and internationally.  They shared their experience on tacking the global recession.

The Taoiseach listened with particular interest to the Mayor's experience of improving public services in New York City, with a population of over 8 million people.  

The Taoiseach said:

“ New York remains a powerhouse of the world economy and an inspirational place to visit for new ideas and positive thinking.

I was very interested to get Mayor Bloomberg’s perspective on the current financial situation, as well as drawing on his significant experience in reforming how public services are delivered in the city of New York.

I am grateful for the continued interest in and support for Ireland and the Irish community from New York City".

The Taoiseach is on an economic mission to the United States, where he is meeting with leading figures in US business, politics and the media in New York and Atlanta, as well as representatives of the Irish American community.
