“Data Protection Day is the time to remind ourselves that we need to take the protection of our personal data seriously” – Murphy
Speaking at an event in Dublin Castle to mark Data Protection Day, Dara Murphy TD, Minister for Data Protection said:
"Data Protection Day is the ideal opportunity to remind ourselves as a society that we need to take the protection of our personal data seriously.” “The transformation in digital communications presents policy makers, legislators and governments, and indeed citizens, with ongoing challenges.”
“As individuals and users, we must educate ourselves on the implications of sharing more and more of our personal data online. We must look to increase individuals’ control over their own personal data.”
“There is a need to ensure that data protection standards keep pace with the emerging technologies. By putting their rights at the heart of everything we do, we can strengthen citizens’ trust and confidence in the digital environment.”
“Government has placed data protection policy firmly on the political agenda. Importantly, new EU rules, once agreed, will update our laws for the digital era. Organisations right across the private and public sectors will need to prepare for these changes.”
