Minister Murphy welcomes Ireland’s positive EU sentiment in poll results

Minister for European Affairs, Dara Murphy TD, has welcomed today's independent European Movement Ireland/Red C Poll, which shows that an overwhelming majority (86%) of Irish people support Ireland’s membership of the EU.

Commenting on the survey, Minister Murphy said:

"Ireland has always been a strong supporter of the European project throughout our over forty years of membership. These strong poll results confirm Ireland’s position at the heart of the European Union, with an overwhelming majority of 86% supporting our EU membership. I am greatly encouraged by this positive sentiment, which is recognition of the huge benefits that EU membership brings to Ireland.”
“It is also particularly welcome to see that a very large majority of Irish citizens, 77%, believe Ireland should remain within the European Union, even in the event of Britain opting out after a referendum. The Irish Government has been clear, of course, that it wishes to see the UK not just remain a member of the EU but a leading and influential member.”
