Statement by the Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern TD
The Taoiseach has this afternoon spoken to the Minister for Defence, Mr. Willie O'Dea TD in relation to today's attack on Irish soldiers serving with UNIFIL in Lebanon.
The Taoiseach said
"I am greatly relieved to hear that the two soldiers injured in this attack have not suffered life threatening injuries. This is a timely reminder, if one were needed, of the daily dangers faced by our peace keepers throughout the world. I take great pride, as I know all Irish people do, in the significant role which our peace keepers play in securing peace in many areas of the world, a role which will be further expanded with the imminent deployment to Chad. I want to extend my best wishes to both soldiers and their families for a speedy recovery. My thoughts and prayers are with the two men and their families at this time."
