Taoiseach meets with Family of Amy Fitzpatrick

The Taoiseach today, 5th March, met with Ms. Audrey Fitzpatrick, mother of Amy Fitzpatrick who went missing in the Costa del Sol on 1 January 2008, and Amy's step-father Mr. Dave Mahon at their request.

The Taoiseach heard of the distress to Amy's family since her disappearance on New Years day and conveyed his understanding of their extremely upsetting situation.

The Taoiseach reiterated the Government's offer to provide whatever assistance it can, and emphasised in particular the willingness of the Irish Embassy in Madrid to assist.

The Taoiseach said he would ask the Embassy to convene a meeting between the family, Irish officials and the Spanish police in order to have a comprehensive review of where the investigation now stands.

Information note

The Department of Foreign Affairs, through the Irish Embassy in Madrid, has been in regular contact with Ms. Fitzpatrick and Mr. Mahon as well as with Amy's family living in Ireland.  The Irish Embassy in Madrid also remains in regular contact with the senior police officer leading the investigation in Spain. The Garda Síochána have provided assistance to the Spanish Police in their investigation.
