Consultation Process for Statement of Strategy 2016 - 2019

The Department of the Taoiseach supports the Taoiseach as Head of Government and works with all Government Departments to implement the Government‘s Programme.

The Department is directly involved in the provision of a range of essential Government services, as well strategic policy advisory functions. Core activities include supporting the Taoiseach in carrying out his duties as Head of Government in relation to the Oireachtas, Constitutional issues, Protocol, the European Council, the North South Ministerial Council and the British Irish Council; the Government Secretariat and the Government Press Office; engaging with the formulation and implementation of government policy, mainly through the system of Cabinet Committees; support for the Ministers of State assigned to the Department; providing briefing and advice for the Taoiseach on the full range of domestic, EU and international policy issues.      

The Department of the Taoiseach is currently preparing its Statement of Strategy for the period 2016 to 2019 and invites any interested parties, including members of the public, to submit their views as the Department seeks to define its high level goals and objectives for the next three years, as well as the strategies to be used to achieve them. This work will reflect the important role for the Department in key national priorities associated with the Economy, BREXIT, Housing and Homelessness and Rural Development building on the existing Strategy Statement which set out eight strategic priorities for the Department as follows:

  • Europe
  • Peace
  • Programme For Government 
  • Service
  • Trust And Reform
  • Ireland In A Globalised World
