Economic Infrastructure, Regional and Rural Affairs and Climate Action

Principal Officer: George Burke

The Economic Infrastructure, Regional and Rural Affairs and Climate Action Unit drives the implementation of key Government infrastructure, regional and rural affairs and climate action priorities. It progresses the policy priorities in the Programme for a Partnership Government through the structure of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Infrastructure and Climate Change, the Cabinet Committee on Regional and Rural Affairs and related Senior Officials Group.

The Economic Infrastructure, Regional and Rural Affairs and Climate Action Unit focuses on advancing important infrastructural projects that will sustain and enhance economic growth.
In conjunction with relevant Departments and agencies, the Unit seeks to drive forward the development and operation of key infrastructure, both in public and private initiatives, in accordance with the Programme for a Partnership Government.

The Unit advances key regional and rural affairs priorities, in line with Government strategies including the Action Plan for Rural Development. It seeks to monitor and drive progress towards targets laid out in the Plan to support rural Ireland, and realise the potential in the regions.

It ensures a whole-of-Government approach to climate change issues relating to our international and national responsibilities. In this it works actively and cooperatively with other Departments and Agencies.
The Unit monitors the implementation of the sectoral framework actions, set out in the Government policy statement on Economic Regulation, through their inclusion in the Government’s Action Plan for Jobs.
