Working Group on Regulating Sponsorship by Alcohol Companies of Major Sporting Events.

The Working Group on Regulating Sponsorship by Alcohol Companies of Major Sporting Events was set up “to consider the value, evidence, feasibility and implications (including the public health consequences for children and young people and the financial impact on sporting organisations) of regulating sponsorship by alcohol companies of major sporting events and to consider alternative sources of funding for sporting organisations to replace potential lost revenue arising from any such regulation”.

The Working Group is due to report to the Cabinet Committee on Social Policy and Public Service Reform by the end of the year. As part of its work, the Group carried out a consultation process (see questionnaire) seeking views and evidence based material from interested parties. This was circulated to key stakeholders identified by relevant Departments. Nineteen submissions were returned with a wide variety of views and evidence offered on each of the issues raised (see submissions below).
