Functions and services provided to the public


Different countries take different approaches to organising the functions of the centre of government, including support for the Head of Government. In Ireland, the Department of the Taoiseach is directly involved in the provision of a range of essential Government services, as well as strategic policy advisory functions. Much of the work of the Department is geared towards supporting the Taoiseach in his constitutional role as Head of Government and to assist him in providing effective leadership, co-ordination and guidance across key policy areas.
