Taoiseach meets with the winners of the Your Country Your Call competition

The Taoiseach, Mr Brian Cowen TD, today met with the winners of the Your Country Your Call competition to congratulate them on their innovative and creative proposals and their success in a very competitive field of entries.

The winning entries were Neil Leyden’s proposal to create a Digital Media Hub and father and son, Cianán Clancy and Colm MacFhlannachadha’s proposal for a Data Island Strategy.

The Taoiseach said ‘I am delighted that the innovative spirit in Ireland is alive and well. The two winning entries demonstrate that there are opportunities for Ireland to position itself as a world leader in targeted markets, just as we did with the IFSC two decades ago. The projects aim to create a Global Media Hub and Mega Green Data Centre here and are reflective of the Government’s Smart Economy strategy to stimulate growth and recovery.’

“The Government looks forward to supporting these projects as they now move into implementation phase.”

The competition sought to find two proposals that would transform the economy by creating jobs and opportunities.  A process to implement the ideas is now being put in place.

The Taoiseach also met with Dr Martin McAleese, who conceived the initiative, and Austin Hogan, CEO of Your Country Your Call,  and congratulated them on the success of the competition.
