Taoiseach to announce top Venture Capital firm to establish operations in Dublin and will also meetFinnish Prime Minister in Dublin


The Taoiseach, Mr Brian Cowen TD, will today, Thursday, make a significant announcement regarding the "Innovation Fund Ireland" which he formally launched in Wall Street last July. The Fund was established to help position Ireland as a Global Innovation Hub by attracting top Venture Capital firms to open operations in Ireland and provide vital capital to Irish companies.

The Taoiseach will announce that a top global Venture Capital firm will set up operations in Dublin, which will invest in Irish companies.

The Taoiseach welcomes the announcement, noting: "that the availability of venture capital and the presence in Ireland of leading international venture capital firms is vital to supporting and growing Irish companies, attracting international high potential start-ups and creating jobs".

The Taoiseach will also meet with the Finnish Prime Minister, Mrs. Mari Kiviniemi who is in Ireland to discuss trade and innovation issues. The Taoiseach and the Prime Minister will hold a bilateral meeting at Government Buildings before attending a major conference in Dublin Castle entitled " Overcoming recession through innovation: Combining Irish and Finnish strengths" .

Note for Editors:

This will be the first visit by Prime Minister Kiviniemi to Dublin since she took office in June of this year.

Discussions are expected to focus on shared interest in innovation as an engine for growth and jobs, as well as economic and EU matters.

Later in the afternoon the Taoiseach and Prime Minister Kiviniemi will address a seminar in Dublin Castle on combining Irish and Finnish strengths in innovation.
