Taoiseach chairs meeting of North South Ministerial Council

The Taoiseach, Mr Enda Kenny TD, will today chair the fourteenth plenary meeting of the North South Ministerial Council (NSMC) in Farmleigh House in the Phoenix Park.

The Taoiseach will lead the members of his Cabinet who will be meeting collectively with the Northern Ireland Executive. First Minister Peter Robinson and deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness will lead the Northern delegation.

Speaking in advance of the meeting the Taoiseach said:

"I look forward to meeting once again with the First Minister and deputy First Minister and with the members of the Northern Executive. These regular meetings provide an impetus to advancing critical North South projects and much needed all-island economic cooperation.

We will have a detailed discussion on the economic challenges facing all parts of this island, including banking reform, fiscal challenges, NAMA and the broader impact of the crisis in the Eurozone.

In addition, there will be a full discussion of progress across a range of areas of North South Co-operation including:

- good progress on research and innovation;
- the North West Gateway Initiative;
- co-operation on tourism and agriculture;
- and the work of North-South bodies.

One week after the Olympic Torch has travelled from Northern Ireland to Dublin, I am looking forward in that spirit to a positive and constructive meeting."
